Working Strategically to End Violence

436 International City of Peace
Nyalukemba Bukavu, Sud-Kivu, D.R. Congo

When these 33 children posed in celebration for establishing their village as an International Cities of Peace, 3000 people were being massacred not far from this orphanage. This month, D.R. Congo has seen “an alarming rise in human rights violations, including the summary execution of more than 100 civilians, forced child recruitment, abductions and cases of forced labor.” (U.N. News) We welcome and commend Jeremie ZIGABE, the committed Liaison between Nyalukemba village and the association of International Cities of Peace (ICP). From ICP, Jeremie, the community, and the children will benefit from a wider platform for telling their story as well as the ICP Classroom and other tools and services for preventing what is truly the worst case scenario – hunger, war, child soldiers, the potential for violence must be stopped. We are with you, Jeremie.
